Two of the most popular mobile games of all time, Supercell’s Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, can now be played on PCs. The two titles are available on the beta edition of Google Play Games, which launched for Windows PCs in January 2022.
In a post on the Supercell site, the company stated:
Our dream is to create great games that as many people as possible play for years and that are remembered forever. Now, for the first time ever, we will officially support two games on PC. We hope the change will bring Clash games closer to more players and provide Clash players more ways to play.
Clash of Clans first launched in 2012, and the fantasy-themed mobile strategy game lets players build villages and attack other players’ villages. Players can also form clans of up to 50 games. Clash Royale is a spin-off game that launched in 2016. It’s a tower defense online multiplayer game. Both free-to-play games have generated billions of dollars in revenue for Supercell over the years since their release on iOS and Android.
Supercell says that the PC versions of these games will include mouse support. It also claims those games will also have “optimized graphics, and high-end performance capabilities” although exactly what that means is unknown. There is cross-platform play with the mobile versions and players with a Supercell ID can log into both the mobile and PC versions, and save their progress across platforms.
The announcement also has an FAQ section. One addresses whether Supercell plans to release its other mobile games to the PC like Hay Day, Brawl Stars, and Boom Beach. Supercell says, “No promises! We will keep you posted for any potential future updates.”
Microsoft does have its own Windows 11 Subsystem for Android that allows some Android games to be played on the OS if they are available on the Amazon Appstore.
