Thinking that bingo is bingo is bingo and dismissing it as such is a mistake made by many. Yes, there is a standard way to play bingo, and yes, that is what you’ll find in many different places, but that’s not the only way to play bingo 33. When you start to look deeper into this game that is loved by so many, you’ll see that there are many different versions to consider.
One such version is known as ‘woke bingo’. Clearly, this is something very new and ‘modern’, something that the youth of today are going to be more interested in playing than any older generations. More and more people are choosing to play this type of game, whether because they truly believe in its message or because it’s something they actually want to do. Read on to find out how it works.
What Is Woke Bingo?
The word ‘woke’ is something that people have started to use fairly recently. It means that something has happened that shows a business or a person and so on has ‘woken up’ to their potentially poor behaviour in the past, and now want to be different, more ‘politically correct’, more inline with what everyone else is doing.
In principle it’s a good thing, but of course it can go too far and be a bit silly, and things that have no need to be changed suddenly are for no really good reason. Woke bingo falls somewhat into this category.
It all comes down to the bingo calls. Those traditional phrases that were called out by the bingo caller when picking a ball out of the bag to play with have always been around. They help players understand exactly which number has been picked and stops any confusion. Plus they’re fun and just a part of the game. Woke bingo says this shouldn’t be so. Woke bingo says these calls are offensive and need to be different. So woke bingo has, in fact, changed them.
The problem is, whereas the old calls (which are still very much in use, so don’t worry about that) actually described the number, the new ones rhyme with the number, but don’t do a lot to give any clues as to what it is. It’s missing that key element which was all part of the game.
Why The Changes?
To be fair, the new calls were initially just a bit of fun. There was an online bingo site that chose to poll its players about new calls, just to see what silliness they came up with. Using chatrooms, the answers were given over, but because a lot of younger players are starting to get into online bingo, they took it a bit more seriously than it was intended to be taken. And so, woke bingo was born.
Some of the new calls include:
7 = Flexitarian
9 = Get an Uber from mine
14 = Netflix and chill
25 = Quarter life crisis
35 = It’s a vibe
38 = Avocado on a plate
39 = Love Island time

49 = Amazon Prime
54 = Lads on tour
68 = Tinder date
74 = Recycle more
78 = Haters gon’ hate
86 = Instagram pics
